Orange City, FL – A retired Orange City man is taken to Volusia County Jail after deputies say he swung a machete at one of his family members and punched another one in the head during a fight over a dog.
As of 2:30pm Tuesday, 68-year-old Robert L. Kronz is held on $11,000 bond at VCJ on charges of battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called out to Kronz’s home on Greenwood Avenue around 6:30pm Sunday to break up the fight between Kronz and his step-grandsons, ages 18 and 17.
When questioned, the younger step-grandson said he was disciplining Kronz’s dog – described in the arrest report as a 14-pound Chihuahua – because it defecated on a couch inside the home and his grandfather got upset about that.
It was during the argument, according to the report, when Kronz went after his younger step-grandson with a “large” machete, swinging it at him.
The older step-grandson told VCSO he came out of his bedroom during the fight and tried to take his brother into the kitchen, at which point Kronz allegedly tried to tackle the older step-grandson onto the couch with the machete still in his hand and punched him in the head.
The boys’ mother – described in the report as Kronz’s step-daughter – witnessed what happened and claimed Kronz also swung the machete at her 18-year-old son, per the report.
Kronz was arrested after telling VCSO that the younger step-grandson “would not shut up and get out of his face” and that the dog’s rear was smacked so hard that he could’ve been hurt. He also denied attacking his older step-grandson, claiming it was the other way around, according to the report.
VCSO took the machete as evidence from Kronz’s home as part of the investigation.
All 4 of them live at the home, according to VCSO.
