DeBary, FL – Students, senior citizens and the disabled can now ride SunRail for half the regular price.

The Florida Department of Transportation unveiled the “Prepaid Value SunCard” on Monday.

It’s a debit-card type system where fares are deducted based in part on the distance traveled, according to FDOT spokesman Steve Olson.

“Funds can be added to the card as often as needed,” Olsen added. “All SunRail customers receive a 10% bonus when loading funds onto the card.”

Students between the ages of 7 and 18 are eligible for the program, as is anyone 65 years of age or older and disabled who are either certified by LYNX or Votran or are currently on Medicare.

“To qualify for the discount, valid identification must be shown to a SunRail conductor upon request,” Olson noted.

The discount applies to all types of fares, including one-way and round-trip tickets as well as weekly, monthly and annual passes.

The Prepaid Value SunCard can be purchased at the ticket vending machines at any of the 12 SunRail stations in Central Florida or by going online (click here).
