Daytona Beach, FL – A 20-year-old Daytona Beach man and 2 juveniles are in custody after police say they crashed a stolen car into an apartment building.
Javaris K. Allen-Holt and the juveniles – ages 16 and 17 – were arrested around 4pm Tuesday on the 500 block of Jean Street following a police chase, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.
Besides grand theft auto, Allen-Holt and the juveniles – whom WNDB will not name because they’re underage – are also charged with resisting arrest and accused of nearly striking an officer’s squad car with the stolen car when he tried to pull them over.
According to the arrest report, that officer was on the 1100 block of North Street when he spotted the stolen car, a 2009 black 4-door Ford Fusion reported stolen from Port Orange the day before.
That officer claims the 17-year-old – who was behind the wheel of the Fusion – drove the stolen car right at his squad car while the emergency lights and siren were on and then fled, which is when DBPD authorized a pursuit.
Other officers joined in during the nearly 10-minute vehicle chase, which ended when the driver of the Fusion abandoned the car in front of an apartment complex on Jean Street and ran off on foot as the car crashed into the 421 building.
DBPD says the other 2 suspects also ran away on foot but were caught a short time later by police and taken into custody at that point.
The building was not damaged significantly, per the report. No serious injuries were reported.
