Daytona Beach, FL – A Volusia County Jail inmate is dead in what authorities are calling a suicide.
29-year-old Vincent M. Tarvin died just before 11pm Wednesday at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
VCSO spokesman Gary Davidson says Tarvin was found hanging from the top bunk of his cell shortly before midnight on Monday.
“[Tarvin had] a bed sheet tied around his neck,” Davidson added. “Corrections staff removed the sheet from Tarvin’s neck and initiated efforts to resuscitate him.”
Tarvin was declared brain dead soon after arriving at HHMC and remained unconscious on life support until his death.
Davidson says the preliminary investigation hasn’t revealed anything suspicious in Tarvin’s death.
“His cellmate disclosed to deputies that Tarvin told him that his girlfriend had recently killed herself,” Davidson noted.
The Palm Coast resident was in jail after his arrest Monday on 2 counts of marijuana possession.
