Bunnell, FL – The ongoing issues with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office computer system is forcing the law enforcement agency to temporarily pull the plug.

County technology employees shut down the New World Systems software at 11am Friday and plan to have it down until at least 5pm Friday.

FCSO spokeswoman Laura Williams says this system houses the computer software that emergency dispatchers use on a daily basis as well as jail, fire and law enforcement records.

“This effort is designed to resolve issues that have plagued the NWS system since the server that hosted the system ran out of disc space on October 29th,” Williams added.

Dispatchers will be using a backup system during the downtime, one that requires them to write down every call that comes in on cards that will be inputted into the computer program once it comes back online, per Williams.

“Additional staff has been added to ensure delays do not occur in obtaining, dispatching and documenting calls into the communications center,” Williams noted.

Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre admits that there’s “major issues” but says he’s been promised by the county that this will get fixed as fast as possible.

“If the citizens call 911, responders will come,” Manfre added. “This is not affecting law enforcement or fire and rescue responses to public safety calls.”

FCSO signed a contract with the county in January 2014 to provide certain types of information technology services, including upgrading the very system that had to be shut down.

“As sheriff, I’m disappointed that it has taken over a year to upgrade this system,” Manfre stated.

As of 5:30pm Friday, FCSO has not provided the media with an update.
