Deltona, FL – An off-duty DeLand police officer and his mother are being investigated after he claims he shot and killed his uncle during a family argument.
A 911 call sent the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office to a home on Tradewinds Drive in Deltona around 6:30pm Friday, according to VCSO spokesman Gary Davidson.
“When deputies began arriving a few minutes later, the victim of the shooting was already dead,” Davidson added. “The shooter said he shot his uncle because he was fighting and choking the officer’s mother during an argument.”
According to deputies on scene, the officer claims he got a gun and fired because he was unable to stop his uncle from attacking his mother in the living room.
“No one else was at the home at the time of the shooting,” Davidson noted.
The names of all the people involved haven’t been released at this time by VCSO.
