Ormond Beach, FL – An Ormond Beach man with a long rap sheet ends up back in jail on 9 separate charges after breaking into at least 4 homes and a vehicle.
21-year-old Robert C. McCann was also caught with drugs by a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy early Sunday morning and is held on $17,000 bond at Volusia County Jail as of 7 PM Monday.
McCann’s been charged with breaking into homes on Palm Drive, Palmetto Drive and Poinsettia Drive as well as 2 counts of hydrocodone and oxycodone possession, criminal mischief and breaking into a vehicle near his Alamanda Drive home.
It all started when VCSO deputies were called to the Poinsettia Drive home by its residents around 11 PM Saturday.
According to the arrest report, a man and woman living at the home told deputies they heard 2 separate banging noises while in the home and discovered that someone used a brick to shatter the glass on the french doors in the back patio.
The man claims he saw a white man with a white T-shirt and khaki shorts run through the back yard and jump a neighbor’s fence before running off southbound on Palm.
A VCSO deputy on scene thought McCann might be the suspect based on prior contacts as well as the description the victim gave, so he asked another deputy to go to McCann’s home to see if he was there.
It was while the deputy approached McCann’s home that he spotted McCann rummaging through a neighbor’s vehicle and took him into custody at that time, per the arrest report.
McCann was arrested after the man identified him as the suspect and found with hydrocodone and oxycodone pills when deputies searched him.
Deputies say a canvass of the area by VCSO using K-9’s led to the discovery of the other homes that were burglarized.
VCJ records show McCann’s been booked there 7 other times since November 2013, including 2 times prior in 2015. He was arrested in January for grand theft and attempted burglary and again in September on the same charges as well as for boating under the influence.
