Daytona Beach, FL – The average price for regular gasoline is about to fall below $2 in Daytona Beach.
The latest AAA Fuel Gauge Report shows the current average at $2.00 as of early Monday morning after a week of flatlining prices. The price is expected to fall below that in the next day or so.
AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins says Florida’s average is just a cent above at $2.01 and that the national average also sits at $2.00 a gallon.
“Gasoline could get even cheaper in the coming weeks as some of the lowest prices of the year typically arrive in January,” Jenkins added. “Once the holiday season wraps up, fewer people take long distance road trips, leading to a downturn in demand at a time when supplies are high.”
AAA expects gas prices to be at its lowest point nationally this New Year’s Day since 2009, a big reason why more than 90 million Americans are hitting the road this holiday season.
The price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.35 in Florida last New Year’s Day, meaning that motorists are saving anywhere between $5 to $10 every time they fill up.
Once the state average falls below $2, it’ll be the first time that’s happened in the Sunshine State since March 2009.
Americans enjoyed the lowest gas prices on Christmas Day since 2008, according to AAA. The average in Florida on Christmas Day was $2.01.
