Daytona Beach, FL – For the 3rd time in 4 days, Daytona Beach sets a record high temperature.
Monday’s high of 84 breaks the mark for that date set in 1988, according to the National Weather Service. The old mark was 83 degrees.
Record highs were also set on Christmas and the day after Christmas in Daytona Beach. Both days peaked at 83 degrees, beating the old records by 1 degree that were set in 1988 and 1987, respectively.
Bob Larson at the Florida Weather Center says the Bermuda High has set up off the coast and should be with us until at least New Year’s Eve, bringing warmer than normal temperatures with it. Larson thinks the state as a whole should start to see cooler El Nino-driven weather by January.
NWS expects highs all week long to stay in the low to mid-80’s with a slight chance of rain and some fog in the mornings. Lows aren’t expected to go much below the mid-60’s.
Meteorologists say local temperatures have run well above average nearly all month long and that will likely make this December the hottest on record in Daytona Beach.
Last month was the hottest November on record in Daytona Beach and the fall was also the hottest on record in Daytona Beach, according to NWS.
2015 is expected to end as the hottest year on record locally, according to preliminary NWS data.
