EVAC ambulance night

DeLand, FL – Charges are pending after a 43-year-old Orange City man was killed in a chain-reaction crash during the Christmas weekend.

Owen Gray Jr. died at the scene just before 12:30 AM Sunday at the intersection of the Dr. Martin Luther King Beltway and Orange Camp Road.

DeLand Police Department Officer TJ Petrella says 3 others were also hurt in that 3-vehicle wreck.

“A tan 2008 Toyota 4 door was traveling east on Orange Camp approaching the intersection of MLK,” Petrella said. “The Toyota struck the rear of [a] Chevy Impala, pushing both of the vehicles into the intersection.”

That Impala – a white-colored 2000 model with 4 doors – was stopped at a red light at the time it was hit, according to the police report.

Petrella says the Impala was pushed into the path of a black GMC pick-up truck heading north on MLK through the intersection while having the green light, hitting the driver’s front side.

“The passenger of the Impala and both occupants of the Toyota were taken to area hospitals under a trauma alert status,” Petrella noted.

Gray was the driver of the Impala, per Petrella. The other people involved haven’t been identified by DeLand PD.
