DeLand, FL – 2 women are in the hospital after officers say they were struck by a vehicle while walking on a road during a foggy night.
The DeLand Police Department says it happened around 11:50 PM Thursday on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard near East Taylor Road.
Officers say a white 2013 Ford sport utility vehicle was heading north on MLK approaching the Taylor intersection when it struck the 2 women.
A 3rd woman was walking alongside those 2 women but she wasn’t hit by the vehicle, per DeLand PD.
Paramedics took one of the victims to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach and the other to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. Both are listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford wasn’t hurt in the crash, according to DeLand police.
Officers say they don’t know at this point why the women were walking on the road.
The identities of the victims and the driver haven’t been released by DeLand PD.
A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office report noted that there was heavy fog in the area at the time of the accident.
Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
