Daytona Beach, FL - A convicted sex offender will spend 45 years behind bars in a plea deal reached in the cases against him.
52-year-old John Lytus pleaded guilty to lesser charges on Monday in the rape and torture of a homeless pregnant woman in an RV in Daytona Beach last year.
“After extensive discussions with John Lytus’s victims, the family of the young woman he murdered, and after consultation with our law enforcement partners, it was determined that a negotiated sentence would spare these victims from having to endure a traumatic trial experience,” said Spencer Hathaway, a spokesman for 7th Circuit State Attorney RJ Larizza. “The community can breathe a collective sigh of relief now that John Lytus has been sentenced.”
Lytus pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and kidnapping in that case. Lytus also entered a guilty plea on a murder charge in the death of a woman whose body was found along a roadway near DeLand. Lytus was sentenced to 45 years in prison on that count. The sentences will run concurrently.
The body of 30-year old Laura Nagengast was found September 25 along a roadway near DeLand. The rape and torture of the homeless pregnant woman inside an RV happened over a 12 hour period on September 18.
